REmake #01
New section! In here, I’ll discuss and review some movies that “re”made. This is, movies that seem to be brand new to the newer generations, but hat have been filmed before. That is the case, for instance, of The Ring wich is a remake from The Ringu, a Japanese horror movie. Making clear what a remake is, let’s read my first review:
The first I want to do is to congrat Rob Zombie for this awesome remake. The movie does not just catches the essense of the original one, but also gives us a surprising detailed extension of the story. Half of the movie is dedicated to Michael Mayers, and the way that this character is developed is simply awesome. We can se how he went crazy and how he began to kill and stuff. We can understnd why he went insane and why he started to behave like he did. On the original one we can only see when he killed his sister and imediately we are taken to the next part of the story.
Another interesting thing that I liked so much was that the whole “massacre” takes place in one night. Obviously, in nowadays movies we have lots of blood, but this movie was kind of an exeption. Yes, it has blood, but it does not exeed the amunt. I believe that this part of the move was produced very carefuly.
Both movies are exellent, each one fitting into their respectives “horror” categories. The 1978 version marked a new era of horror movies along with Friday 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. At the time (well, I saw them like 15 years later, hehe) they were the ultimate horror movies and they are still the basis for most of the classic horror movies. Now, the 2007 version is not that far from giving a new concept of horror films. It doest not fall into the typical gore movie or typical “i’m-gonna-kill-everyone-in-all-possible-ways” movie. It certainly follows the same “script” that the original used to do the killings.
Honestly, both movies are awesome and both are worth the time and money you invest in them.
4 out of 5 stars
